Caledonia hangs on, beats Listowel 4-2

Connor Murphy scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Caledonia Corvairs held off the challenges of the Listowel Cyclones in a tough 4-2 win.

Caledonia took over the lead for good with a goal by Murphy at 13:08 in the first period. Simon Blythe picked up the assist.

The Corvairs were led by Mitch Brown, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Brown scored 3:36 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Caledonia. Nate Mitton provided the assist.

Listowel was unable to stop Caledonia from sending pucks towards the net, and the Corvairs eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Fabrizio Ricci also scored for Caledonia. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Brandon Montour, who had two.

The Cyclones managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Listowel ended up below its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cyclones did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Listowel averages 4.1 goals per game. The Cyclones forced Caledonia goalie Justis Husak to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Listowel was helped by Jacob Robitaille, who had one goal. Robitaille scored on the power play 9:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Listowel. The Cyclones earned a power play opportunity when Blythe was put in the box for tripping. Patrick Bell picked up the assist. Listowel also got points from Bell, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Listowel came via Caleb Cameron, who had one and Mac Nichol, who had two.

Justis Husak made 34 saves for the Corvairs on 36 shots. Caledonia incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Drew Reinhardt recorded 33 saves for Listowel. The Cyclones registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
