Kitchener holds on for 4-3 win against Waterloo

Kinsmen Arena    Tue, Oct 09, 2012

The Kitchener Dutchmen survived a determined comeback attempt by the Waterloo Siskins on the way to a 4-3 win.

Kitchener took a 4-2 lead during the second period, only to have Waterloo storm back on a Evan Buehler goal 8:19 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

John Divo was all over the ice for the Dutchmen, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Divo scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:30 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A cross checking penalty on Ted Anstett had put Kitchener on the power play. Dylan Bursey provided the assist. Divo's next tally on the power play made the score Kitchener with 17 seconds left in the second period. The Dutchmen earned a power play opportunity when Blake Hetherington was put in the box for slashing. Keli Grant assisted on the tally.

Kitchener put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Siskins to score on any of their three power plays. The Dutchmen forced Waterloo goalie Darren Huck to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Ty Learn also scored for Kitchener. More assists for Kitchener came via David Jennings and Matt Pappineau, who each chipped in one.

The Siskins kept Kitchener's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jack Moylan made 31 saves on 34 shots. Waterloo could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

In addition, Waterloo received assists from Adam Campagnolo, who had two and Eric Cimino and Stephen Witiuk, who contributed one a piece.

The Dutchmen incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Huck rejected 34 shots on goal for the Siskins.
