Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Elmira Sugar Kings defeated the Caledonia Corvairs in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO). The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. Elmira also got a shootout goal from Brady Campbell.Campbell was all over the ice for the Sugar Kings, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Campbell's tallies came at 7:27 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Elmira and on the power play 11:45 into the second to make the score 2-0 Elmira. Elmira kept Caledonia's goalie busy throughout the game, and Justis Husak made 45 saves on 48 shots. The Sugar Kings struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 30 penalty minutes for nine opposing power plays. In addition, Elmira received assists from Clayton Greer, who had one and Jake Weidner, who had two. The Corvairs' offense operated below they season average. Caledonia averages 4.7 goals per game. Elmira was unable to stop the Corvairs from sending pucks towards the net, and Caledonia eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. The Corvairs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game. Caledonia was helped by Scott Dorian, who registered one goal. Dorian scored on the power play 13:48 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Elmira. The Corvairs earned a power play opportunity when Justin Cooke was put in the box for slashing. Simon Blythe picked up the assist. Connor Murphy also scored for Caledonia. More assists for Caledonia came via Ryan Blunt, Dalton Riley, and Brandon Montour, who each chipped in one. Mackenzie Blackwood rejected 37 shots on goal for the Sugar Kings. Elmira registered one goal on five power play opportunities. |
