Chatham outlasts Leamington, 3-2Chatham Memorial Arena Sun, Oct 07, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Chatham Maroons and the Leamington Flyers was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Chatham emerged with a 3-2 win. The Maroons gained the winning advantage on a goal by Eric Palazzolo 17:13 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Chatham was paced by Palazzolo, who registered one goal. The Maroons kept Leamington's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Mancina made 40 saves on 43 shots. Chatham also got points from Michael Verboom, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Trevor Richardson also scored for Chatham. In addition, Chatham received assists from Evan Mascaro, who had two and Ben Pataki, Brayden Hopkins, and Sean Myers, who contributed one a piece. Chatham was unable to stop the Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Leamington eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. The Flyers found themselves short handed often, totaling 28 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays. Leamington was led by Nick Beaune, who had one goal and one assist. Beaune scored on the power play 18:40 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Flyers had gotten the advantage when the Maroons' Hopkins was sent off for hooking. Troy Cox picked up the assist. Leamington also got a goal from Alex Seguin as well. More assists for Leamington came via Bryce Doan and Joe Manchurek, who each chipped in one. Darien Ekblad recorded 46 saves for Chatham. The Maroons incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Leamington registered two goals on five power play opportunities. |
