Strathroy uses shootout to best Stratford, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Strathroy Rockets defeated the Stratford Cullitons in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Stratford's shootout goal was scored by Shane O Brien. Strathroy also got a shootout goal from Tyler Duarte.

The Rockets overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Strathroy trailed 2-1 after a power play goal by the Cullitons' Jordan Currie at 3:31 in the third period. The Rockets tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Shawn Grogan at 19:07 in the third period.

Strathroy was helped by Wes Baker, who finished with one goal. Baker scored 14:39 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Grogan provided the assist. Strathroy also got points from Grogan, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Duarte, Kurtis Sander, and Chase Thornton, who each chipped in one.

Stratford's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Strathroy power plays. The Cullitons' offense rang up 33 shots on the Rockets' net.

Stratford also got a goal from O Brien as well. More assists for Stratford came via Trevor Sauder, Andrew Barton, and Jake Ryan, who contributed one a piece.

Gordie Weiss made 31 saves for Strathroy on 33 shots. The Rockets incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Strathroy, Nick Boyer was ejected from the game. Nick Caldwell recorded 26 saves for Stratford. The Cullitons totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Stratford ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mitch Vandergunst was ejected from the game.
