Sarnia uses early goal to top Elmira, 3-1

Jason Teschke gave the Sarnia Legionnaires the lead in the first period, and the Elmira Sugar Kings was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

Teschke provided Sarnia with the game-winning tally when he scored 19:59 into the the first period. A cross checking penalty on Justin Cooke had put the Legionnaires on the power play. Jeff Bauer picked up the assist.

Sarnia was led by goalie Sean Parker, who finished with 41 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Parker will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.47.

Elmira's power play was ineffective against the Legionnaires' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Sarnia excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Sarnia also got points from Bauer, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Josh Kestner also scored for Sarnia. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Jeff Paulley, Brent Sauve, Derek D`Andrea, Zack Tuchklaper, and Davis Boyer, who each chipped in one.

The Sugar Kings could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Elmira puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. The Legionnaires were unable to stop the Sugar Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Elmira eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

The Sugar Kings were led by Mitch Wright, who scored the team's only goal. Wright scored 6:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. Brady Campbell provided the assist.

Sarnia incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Hayden Neuman rejected 25 shots on goal for Elmira. The Sugar Kings incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
