Cambridge stifles London's comeback, gains 6-4 victory

The Cambridge Winter Hawks came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the London Nationals, but did just enough to escape with a 6-4 victory.

Cambridge led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Winter Hawks' Hudson Michaelis' scored at 7:33 in the second period to put Cambridge up 3-0.

Cody Gratton had two goals to lead the Winter Hawks to victory. Gratton scored at 12:47 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cambridge and again while 4:23 into the third to make the score 4-2 Cambridge.

Cambridge pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes.

The Winter Hawks managed to hold London's power play largely in check, allowing only one goal while on the disadvantage.

Christian Barnard also scored for Cambridge. More assists for Cambridge came via Brennon Pearce, who had two and Tyler Snyder, Aaron Duggan, Jordan Pettitt, and Chris Taylor, who contributed one a piece.

The Nationals' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Cambridge power plays.

London was helped by Aaron Dartch, who finished with one goal. Dartch scored 5:51 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Cambridge. Paul Hopkins provided the assist. London also got points from Noah Schwartz, who also registered one goal and one assist. London also got a goal from Matt Ross as well. Other players who recorded assists for London were Chris Lindner and Derek Todosichuk, who each chipped in one.

Lucas Machalski rejected 26 shots on goal for Cambridge. For the Winter Hawks, Cameron Pentsa and Trevor Hache were ejected from the contest. The Nationals' starting goalie, Taylor Edwards, made 22 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Nick Dampier, who stopped two shots. London incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Team's Shawn Crowley and Paxton Leroux were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
