London outlasts Leamington, 3-2

The London Nationals and the Leamington Flyers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but London made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Jonathan Sims at 7:36 of the second period.

The Nationals were led by Aaron Dartch, who finished with one goal and one assist. Dartch scored on the power play 9:06 into the second period to make the score 3-1 London. London had gained a power play chance when Eric Leardi was whistled for handling the puck. Noah Schwartz assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:07 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The the Nationals penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 30.0 minutes per game London had been spending in the box. Leamington was unable to stop the Nationals from sending pucks towards the net, and London eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Nationals were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances.

London additionally got points from Shawn Crowley, who also tallied one goal and one assist.

The Flyers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Leamington had been averaging 29.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Flyers forced London goalie Taylor Edwards to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Leamington was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of 11 man advantages.

The Flyers were helped by Chris Scott, who racked up one goal. Scott scored on the power play 1:17 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jacob McGhee picked up the assist. David Dalby also scored for Leamington. More assists for Leamington came via Brett Babkirk and Riley Babkirk, who each chipped in one.

Edwards rejected 39 shots on goal for the Nationals. London ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Simsons was ejected from the game. Matt Mancina recorded 31 saves for Leamington. For the Flyers, Nick Beaune was ejected from the game.
