Leamington holds on for 4-2 win against StrathroyWest Middlesex Arena Sun, Sep 30, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Strathroy Rockets tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Leamington Flyers held on for a 4-2 victory. Leamington took a 4-1 lead during the second period, only to have Strathroy storm back on a Blake ONeill goal 16:46 into the third period to pull to two goals down. The Rockets' power play was ineffective against the Flyers' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Leamington penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and one major for 57 minutes in penalty time. The Flyers had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game. Strathroy was unable to stop Leamington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Leamington was helped by Joe Manchurek, who tallied one goal. Manchurek scored on the power play 7:12 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Leamington. A inciting an opponent penalty on Max Naus had put the Flyers on the power play. Alex Seguin assisted on the tally. Leamington additionally got points from Seguin, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Tony Spidalieri, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Leamington also got a goal from David Dalby as well. In addition, Leamington received assists from Brett Babkirk, Jared Dennis, and Dakota Olvin, who each chipped in one. Other players who recorded assists for Strathroy were Kurtis Sander, Dylan Wilson-Foote, and Brett Dyck, who contributed one a piece. Mancina recorded 37 saves for Leamington. The Flyers registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Leamington ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bryce Doan was ejected from the game. Gordie Weiss made 29 saves for Strathroy on 33 shots. For the Rockets, Tyler Coleman was ejected from the game.
