Huge game by Facey boosts Cambridge over Elmira, 9-2

Behind a great game by Mitch Facey, who had two goals and two assists, the Cambridge Winter Hawks defeated the Elmira Sugar Kings, 9-2.

Facey scored short handed at 12:20 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Cambridge and again while 16:13 into the third to make the score 9-2 Cambridge.

Cambridge pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 61 penalty minutes.

The Winter Hawks forced Sugar Kings' goaltenders to work all game long, finishing with 40 shots and forcing 31 saves. Hayden Neuman made 17 stops and Mackenzie Blackwood made 14. Cambridge's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Winter Hawks average 4.0 goals per contest. Cambridge was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play.

Cambridge also got points from Christian Barnard, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Maxime Lamontagne, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Ben Holtum, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Chris Taylor, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Cambridge also had goals scored by Lawrence Pagnan, who had one and Cody Gratton, who had two. More assists for Cambridge came via Aaron Duggan, who had three and Brandon Plourde, Hudson Michaelis, and Alex Bottigoni, who each chipped in one.

Elmira found itself short handed often, totaling 28 penalty minutes and allowing three power plays.

The Sugar Kings were helped by Jake Weidner, who tallied one goal. Weidner scored on the power play 16:59 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Elmira had gotten the advantage when the Winter Hawks' Trevor Hache was sent off for slashing. Brandon Stewart assisted on the tally. Elmira also got a goal from Zac Coulter as well. In addition, Elmira received assists from Cass Frey, who had one.

Lucas Machalski recorded 25 saves for Cambridge. For the Winter Hawks, Pagnan was ejected from the game. The Sugar Kings registered one goal on 11 power play opportunities. Elmira ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Clayton Greer was ejected from the game.
