Sarnia survives Chatham comeback, wins 6-4

The Sarnia Legionnaires came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Chatham Maroons, but did just enough to escape with a 6-4 victory.

Sarnia led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Legionnaires' Matt Cimetta's scored at 7:44 in the second period to put Sarnia up 4-1.

Davis Boyer was all over the ice for the Legionnaires, as he had two goals in the win. Boyer found the back of the net 18:03 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Sarnia and again while 16:27 into the third to make the score 5-4 Sarnia.

Sarnia found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Legionnaires average 3.7 goals per contest.

Sarnia additionally got points from Cimetta, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Josh Kestner also scored for Sarnia. More assists for Sarnia came via Brent Sauve, who had one, Derek D`Andrea, who had two, and Jason Teschke, who had four.

Chatham excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

The Maroons were led by Sean Myers, who finished with two goals. Myers scored the first of his two goals at 17:37 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ian Faubert provided the assist. Myers' next tally made the score 4-4 with 13:04 left in the third period. Chatham had taken the advantage when Sarnia's Cimetta got sent off for high sticking. Ben Pataki picked up the assist. Chatham also got points from Trevor Richardson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Chatham also got a goal from Nate Pietens as well. In addition, Chatham received assists from Marco Canzoneri, Oliver Blayne, Brayden Hopkins, Michael Verboom, and Blake Blondeel, who each chipped in one.

The Legionnaires' Andrew Ganter stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Sarnia ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The Legionnaires ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Steve Farlow was ejected from the game. Darien Ekblad made 21 saves for the Maroons on 27 shots. Chatham totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. For the Maroons, Eric Palazzolo was ejected from the game.
