Huge game by Phillips boosts Port Colborne over Thorold, 5-2

Behind a great game by Dayne Phillips, who had two goals and two assists, the Port Colborne Pirates defeated the Thorold Blackhawks, 5-2.

Phillips found the back of the net on the power play 18:48 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Port Colborne and again while 19:56 into the third to make the score 5-2 Port Colborne.

Port Colborne's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Thorold power plays. The Pirates' offense rang up 32 shots on Thorold's net.

Port Colborne also got points from Trevor Smith, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Sebastian Kanally also scored for Port Colborne. In addition, Port Colborne received assists from James Mense-Dietrich, Zoran Popel, Pat Murphy, DYLAN BURDICK, and Bryan Komasara, who each chipped in one.

The Blackhawks kept Port Colborne's goalie busy throughout the game, and Real Cormier made 30 saves on 32 shots.

Thorold was helped by Ed Creighton, who racked up one goal. Creighton scored 5:32 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Thorold. Joe DiBiasi picked up the assist. Thorold also got a goal from Joel Forestell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Kevin Lavoie, Owen Sobchak, and Vince Dunn, who contributed one a piece.

The Pirates incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Blackhawks' Vinny Merante stopped 27 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Thorold incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
