Port Colborne rips Buffalo, 9-3

The Port Colborne Pirates had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 9-3 win over the Buffalo Jr. Blades.

Charlie Izaguirre had two goals and two assists to lead Port Colborne. Izaguirre scored the first of his two goals at 9:12 into the second period to make the score 5-0 Port Colborne. Jordan Warren assisted on the tally. Izaguirre's next tally made the score 8-3 Port Colborne with 4:47 left in the third period. The Pirates had taken the advantage when Buffalo's Hunter Conboy got sent off for elbowing. Warren provided the assist.

Port Colborne kept the Jr. Blades' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Klein made 49 saves on 58 shots. The Pirates surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Port Colborne averages 5.2 goals per contest. The Pirates capitalized on Buffalo's penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage. The defensemen of Port Colborne were also effective in the Jr. Blades' zone, and came away with two goals.

Port Colborne also got points from Dayne Phillips, who also registered one goal and three assists, Sebastian Kanally, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Trevor Smith, who also had one goal and one assist. Port Colborne also had goals scored by Dima Lavrenov, who had two and Thomas Sestini and Bryan Komasara, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Port Colborne were James Mense-Dietrich, who had two and Michael Sharp and Tomas Dychtiar, who contributed one a piece.

Buffalo forced the Pirates goalie Real Cormier to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Jr. Blades bested their season scoring average. Buffalo averages 0.8 goals per game.

The Jr. Blades were helped by Gary Seitz, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Seitz scored on the power play 11:06 into the second period to make the score 6-1 Port Colborne. Buffalo earned a power play opportunity when Sharp was put in the box for roughing. Nick Berst picked up the assist. Buffalo additionally got points from Berst, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Luke Maving also scored for Buffalo. More assists for Buffalo came via Cody Teijeira, Gavin Abbott, and Tyler Gallagher, who each chipped in one.

Cormier recorded 33 saves for Port Colborne. The Pirates ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For Port Colborne, Joe Dagostino was ejected from the game. The Jr. Blades incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Buffalo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kennedy Monaco was ejected from the game.
