Taylor's big game bests Listowel in 6-2 Cambridge win

The Cambridge Winter Hawks' Chris Taylor had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 6-2 win over the Listowel Cyclones.

Taylor got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 5:21 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cambridge. Cambridge had gained a power play chance when Mac Nichol was whistled for slashing. Maxime Lamontagne picked up the assist. Taylor dished an assist on Lamontagne's goal that made the score 1-1 at 16:15 into the first period. He added another helper on Cameron Pentsa's goal that made the score 5-2 Cambridge at 8:27 into the third period.

The Winter Hawks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 26 penalty minutes.

Cambridge put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Listowel to score on any of its nine power plays. The Winter Hawks kept the Cyclones' goalie busy throughout the game, and Drew Reinhardt made 26 saves on 32 shots. Cambridge's goal total was higher than its season average. The Winter Hawks average 3.2 goals per game. Cambridge got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Cambridge also got points from Pentsa, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Lamontagne, who also had one goal and two assists, and Trevor Hache, who also registered one goal and two assists. Cambridge also got a goal from Brandon Plourde as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Cody Gratton, who had two and Tyler Snyder and Brennon Pearce, who each chipped in one.

Listowel could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Cyclones were helped by Jacob Robitaille, who grabbed one goal. Robitaille scored 47 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-2 Cambridge. Patrick Bell provided the assist. Listowel additionally got points from Caleb Cameron, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for Listowel came via Colten Pickett, who had one.

Mitch Figueirdo recorded 23 saves for the Winter Hawks. Cambridge registered five goals on 10 power play opportunities. Listowel ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nichol was ejected from the game.
