St. Catharines shrugs off penalties, upends Thorold, 3-1

The Thorold Blackhawks failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the St. Catharines Falcons shook off a number of penalties to win, 3-1.

St. Catharines was paced by Braeden Kavaravtzis, who racked up one goal. Kavaravtzis scored on the power play 18:00 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Catharines. The Falcons earned a power play opportunity when Robert MacFarlane was put in the box for holding. Yanni Rallis assisted on the tally.

St. Catharines stifled Thorold's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Falcons could not produce up to they normal offensive output. St. Catharines puts an average of 5.8 pucks into the net per game.

St. Catharines also got a goal from Jimmy Sheehan as well. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Ben Walsh, who had two and Tyler Jackson and Aaron Taylor, who each chipped in one.

The Blackhawks did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Thorold averages 3.7 goals per game.

The Blackhawks were led by Dan Chudobiak, who scored the team's only goal. Chudobiak scored 10:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thorold. Ed Creighton provided the assist.

Marcus Del Conte made 18 saves for the Falcons on 19 shots. St. Catharines totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Falcons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Anthony Pullia was ejected from the game. Thorold's Vinny Merante stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Blackhawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
