Guelph erases deficit to stun Kitchener, 3-2

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Guelph Hurricanes battled back to claim a 3-2 victory over the Kitchener Dutchmen.

Guelph never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Hurricanes fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Kitchener's Keegan Calder at 10:33 in the first period. Guelph tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Matt Lippa at 12:55 in the second period. The Hurricanes got the game winner at 5:01 in the third period on a goal by Lippa.

Guelph was sparked by Matt Nightingale, who had one goal and one assist.

The Hurricanes' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Kitchener power plays.

Guelph also got points from Mitch Klie, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Rob Bennett, who had two and Ian Chan and Jordan Hatzinger, who contributed one a piece.

The Dutchmen excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Guelph was unable to stop Kitchener from sending pucks towards the net, and the Dutchmen eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Kitchener was helped by Ryo Kobayashi, who tallied one goal. Kobayashi scored 7:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kitchener. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Brett Clampitt and Steven Jakiela, who each chipped in one.

Lee Doherty rejected 32 shots on goal for the Hurricanes. Guelph incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Dutchmen's Jack Moylan stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Kitchener incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Dutchmen, Tyler Hoffman was ejected from the game.
