Richard, Thorold blank Buffalo, 2-0

The Thorold Blackhawks used a sparkling performance by Blake Richard to take down the Buffalo Jr. Blades, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Thorold's 2-0 shutout victory.

Buffalo's power play was ineffective against the Blackhawks' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Thorold was sparked by Owen Sobchak, who registered one goal. Sobchak scored short handed 7:37 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Thorold. A holding call on Matt Pizzo put the Blackhawks on the penalty kill. Matthew Hoszko provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:39 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Thorold put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr. Blades to score on any of their six power plays. The Blackhawks' offense operated below they season average. Thorold puts an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. The Blackhawks' defensive effort looked to be improved. Thorold allows 2.2 goals per game. The Blackhawks' offense rang up 48 shots on Buffalo's net. Thorold's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Blackhawks finished with 29 penalty minutes.

Ben Hughes also scored for Thorold. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Vince Dunn and Roger Sherwood, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. Blades' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Thorold power plays.

Richard recorded 28 saves for Thorold. The Blackhawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dan Chudobiak was ejected from the game. Brandon Klein made 46 saves for Buffalo on 48 shots. The Jr. Blades ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For Buffalo, Jon Haynes was ejected from the game.
