GAME RECAP

Neuman leads Elmira to shutout victory over Guelph

Dan Snyder Memorial    Sun, Sep 16, 2012

Hayden Neuman was superb between the pipes for the Elmira Sugar Kings, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Guelph Hurricanes.

Elmira got the win with help from a great game by Brady Campbell, who had two goals and one assist. Campbell scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:35 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. The Sugar Kings earned a power play opportunity when Chad Herron was put in the box for checking from behind. Brodie Whitehead assisted on the tally. Campbell's next tally on the power play made the score 3-0 Elmira with 5:46 left in the third period. Jake Weidner picked up the assist.

Guelph's power play was ineffective against Elmira's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Sugar Kings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Hurricanes to score on any of their nine power plays. Elmira's offense rang up 60 shots on Guelph's net.

Adam Brubacher also scored for Elmira. In addition, Elmira received assists from Cash Seraphim, who had two.

The Sugar Kings were unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Guelph eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Neuman rejected 32 shots on goal for Elmira. The Sugar Kings incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Lee Doherty recorded 57 saves for the Hurricanes. Guelph incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Hurricanes, Herron was ejected from the game.
