Niagara Falls uses shootout to best Stoney Creek, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Niagara Falls Canucks defeated the Stoney Creek Warriors in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Niagara Falls kept Stoney Creek's goalie busy throughout the game, and Alexander Brooks-Potts made 39 saves on 42 shots.

The Canucks were helped by Marcus Michalski, who grabbed one goal. Michalski scored 5:21 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Niagara Falls. Cam Stewart provided the assist. Niagara Falls also got points from Stewart, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were Michael Christou, who had one and Darren Young, who had two.

The Warriors put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Niagara Falls to score on any of its five power plays.

Stoney Creek was helped by Jake Milligan, who finished with one goal. Milligan scored 8:24 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Cordell James picked up the assist. Wesley St. Amand also scored for Stoney Creek. In addition, Stoney Creek received assists from Luke Zupan, Zach Niemanen, and Connor MacIvor, who each chipped in one.

Hunter Johnson rejected 22 shots on goal for the Canucks. Niagara Falls incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Warriors incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
