Cambridge downs Kitchener in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Cambridge Winter Hawks pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Kitchener Dutchmen on a clutch goal by Chris Taylor.

Cambridge pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 36 penalty minutes.

The Winter Hawks were paced by Taylor, who racked up one goal. Taylor scored on the power play 56 seconds into overtime to make the score 3-2 Cambridge. Cody Gratton picked up the assist.

Cambridge excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Cambridge also got points from Gratton, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cambridge also got a goal from Anthony Guido as well. More assists for Cambridge came via Andrew Coupland, Brennon Pearce, and Trevor Hache, who contributed one a piece.

Kitchener forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The Dutchmen surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game.

Kitchener was led by Eric Hammerl, who grabbed two goals. Hammerl scored the first of his two goals at 11:56 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Adam Kawalec provided the assist. Hammerl's next tally made the score 2-1 Kitchener with 12:13 left in the second period. Ryo Kobayashi assisted on the tally. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Philip Moser, who had one.

Lucas Machalski recorded 21 saves for the Winter Hawks. Cambridge registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For the Winter Hawks, Guido and Pearce were ejected from the contest. The Dutchmen's Jack Moylan stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Team's Andrew Boer, Brett Clampitt, and Jordan Delaurier were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
