Cambridge holds on for 3-2 win against Caledonia

The Cambridge Winter Hawks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Caledonia Corvairs on the way to a 3-2 win.

Cambridge took a 2-0 lead during the second period, only to have Caledonia storm back on a Brandon Montour goal 11:41 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Winter Hawks were led by Maxime Lamontagne, who racked up one goal and one assist. Lamontagne scored 15:00 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Cambridge. Alex Bottigoni picked up the assist.

Cambridge kept the Corvairs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Justis Husak made 49 saves on 52 shots. The Winter Hawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game. Team could not crack Caledonia's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 13 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Cambridge also got a goal from Cody Gratton as well. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Brennon Pearce and Chris Taylor, who contributed one a piece.

Cambridge was unable to stop the Corvairs from sending pucks towards the net, and Caledonia eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. The Corvairs were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 56 penalty minutes.

Connor Murphy also scored for Caledonia. More assists for Caledonia came via Jeff Swift, who had one and Tyler Norrie, who had two.

Lucas Machalski recorded 42 saves for the Winter Hawks. Caledonia registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
