Port Colborne rolls over Welland, 6-2

The Port Colborne Pirates were firing on all cylinders against the Welland Jr. Canadians, and when the final buzzer sounded Pirates emerged with a 6-2 win.

Charlie Izaguirre was all over the ice for Port Colborne, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Izaguirre scored the first of his two goals at 14:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Port Colborne. Jordan Warren provided the assist. Izaguirre's next tally made the score 5-2 Port Colborne with 23 seconds left in the second period. The Pirates had gained a power play chance when Aaron Beally was whistled for cross checking. Bryan Komasara assisted on the tally.

Port Colborne forced Jr. Canadians' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 37 shots and forcing 31 saves. Chris McDougall made six stops and Matt Coulombe made 25. The Pirates excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Port Colborne additionally got points from Trevor Smith, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Warren, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Komasara, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Dima Lavrenov, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Port Colborne were Dayne Phillips, who had two and Sebastian Kanally and Joe Dagostino, who contributed one a piece.

Port Colborne was unable to stop Welland from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Canadians eventually piled up 46 shots on goal.

Welland was helped by Brooker Muir, who had one goal. Muir scored 14:37 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Port Colborne. Chris Brown picked up the assist. Welland also got a goal from Braden Curry as well. More assists for Welland came via Gabe Ruggi and Chris Langdon, who each chipped in one.

Real Cormier recorded 44 saves for the Pirates. Port Colborne incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Jr. Canadians incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
