Finley lifts Peoria over Queen City, 8-4

Max Finley was all over the ice for the Peoria Mustangs, as he tallied two goals in Peoria's 8-4 win over the Queen City Steam.

Finley scored at 15:40 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Peoria and again while 15:34 into the third to make the score 6-4 Peoria.

The Mustangs pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 33 penalty minutes.

Peoria's goal total was higher than its season average. The Mustangs have scored at the pace of 3.0 goals per game during the current campaign. Peoria's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Peoria additionally got points from Nikolas Sakellaropoulos, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Alexander Turin, who also had one goal and one assist, Brennan Anderson, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Chance Homerin, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Brendan Murphy, who also registered one goal and one assist. Austin Wisely also scored for Peoria. More assists for Peoria came via Lyndon Fields, who had two, Cody Lichtenvoort, who had three, and Kevin Piskie, Connor Millard, and Clayton Layne, who contributed one a piece.

Queen City was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Steam surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game.

Queen City was led by Jonah Hoover, who finished with one goal and two assists. Hoover scored on the power play 13:02 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Peoria. The Steam had gained a power play chance when Finley was whistled for tripping. Nick Brusa provided the assist. Queen City also got points from Lucas McCammant, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Henry Smith, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Queen City also got a goal from Paul McAvoy as well. Other players who recorded assists for Queen City were Eric Woodward, Robert Gentile, and Emil Sundstrom, who each chipped in one.

Michael Parda made 24 saves for the Mustangs on 28 shots. Peoria registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Queen City's starting goalie, Alec Rounds, made 17 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Zak Kemble, who stopped two shots. The Steam registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
