Peoria rolls over Queen City, 5-1

The Queen City Steam had trouble finding ways to stop the Peoria Mustangs, which beat Steam, 5-1.

Peoria's Alex Reichle was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 27 saves and let only one puck past him. Reichle managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.24 prior to the game.

Queen City's nine penalties came back to haunt it, as the Steam let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

The Mustangs forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. Peoria had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Mustangs found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Peoria has scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of the Mustangs were also effective in Queen City's zone, and came away with two goals.

Peoria was helped by Robert Norton, who had one goal. Norton scored 12:17 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Peoria. Kevin Piskie provided the assist. Peoria additionally got points from Austin Wisely, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Peoria also got a goal from Cory Kettler as well. More assists for Peoria came via Brennan Anderson and Lyndon Fields, who contributed two a piece.

The Steam were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. Queen City surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Steam were led by Eric Woodward, who scored the team's only goal. Woodward scored on the power play 14:09 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. A holding penalty on Cody Lichtenvoort had put Queen City on the power play. Nick Brusa picked up the assist.

Alec Rounds made 25 saves for the Steam on 30 shots. Queen City registered one goal on eight power play opportunities.
