Three Rivers outlasts Toledo, 4-2

The Three Rivers Vengeance gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Toledo Cherokee.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Tom Diffendal secured the win for Three Rivers with a goal in the second period.

Toledo's power play was ineffective against the Vengeance's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Three Rivers was paced by Diffendal, who racked up one goal. Diffendal scored on the power play 13:48 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Three Rivers. The Vengeance had taken the advantage when the Cherokee's Brody Duncan got sent off for fighting. Nico Vecchio assisted on the tally.

Three Rivers stifled Toledo's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Vengeance kept the Cherokee's goalie busy throughout the game, and Nate Gay made 32 saves on 36 shots.

Three Rivers also got a goal from Alex Berardinelli as well. In addition, Three Rivers received assists from Tyler Berry, Vincent Susi, Damien Lona, and Chase Leonelli, who each chipped in one.

Toledo was helped by Austin Turner, who finished with one goal. Turner scored 14:36 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Toledo. Brett Podgorski picked up the assist. Toledo additionally got points from Zachary Armstrong, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Toledo came via Jordan Prewitt, who had one.

Matthew Erlichman recorded 23 saves for Three Rivers. The Vengeance totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Cherokee ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
