North Iowa rips Quad City, 12-1

The North Iowa Bulls were firing on all cylinders against the Quad City Jr. Flames, and when the final buzzer sounded Bulls emerged with a 12-1 win.

Connor Langfield was all over the ice for North Iowa, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Langfield scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:37 into the first period to make the score 2-0 North Iowa. The Bulls had taken the advantage when Quad City's Joe Edwards got sent off for slashing. Timothy Santopoalo picked up the assist. Langfield's next tally on the power play made the score 6-0 North Iowa with 11:35 left in the second period. A high sticking call on Eric Behrend put North Iowa on the penalty kill.

The Bulls' Matthew Bartels was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 25 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Bartels will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.34.

North Iowa racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 15 minors and one major for 55 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Bulls had been spending in the box. North Iowa forced Jr. Flames' netminders to work between the pipes, firing 44 shots and forcing 32 saves. Jake Leon made 15 stops and Hunter Tetreault made 17. The Bulls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr. Flames to score on any of their 14 power plays. North Iowa surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Bulls average 6.4 goals per game. North Iowa's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

North Iowa additionally got points from Behrend, who also finished with two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, Patrick Sivets, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Andrew Halama, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Tony Paulson, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, James Hughes, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Santopoalo, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Bryan Broders also scored for North Iowa. More assists for North Iowa came via Kyle Krueger, who had two, Matt Kroska, who had three, Ron Lindgren, who had four, and Tyler Burg and Bobby Chapman, who contributed one a piece.

Quad City's penalty kill unit could not stop the Bulls' power play, which converted on two of three opportunities.

Quad City also got a goal from Easton Halbert as well. Other players who recorded assists for Quad City were Aksel Campbell, who had one.

The Jr. Flames ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
