North Iowa shrugs off penalties, upends Quad City, 5-2

The North Iowa Bulls, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Quad City Jr. Flames' power play opportunities and emerged with a 5-2 victory.

North Iowa was led by Patrick Sivets, who tallied one goal and one assist. Sivets scored on the power play 6:55 into the third period to make the score 3-2 North Iowa. The Bulls had gotten the advantage when Quad City's Clayton Janecke was sent off for elbowing. Ron Lindgren provided the assist.

The the Bulls penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. North Iowa had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Bulls forced the Jr. Flames goalie Jake Leon to work between the pipes, taking 58 shots.

North Iowa additionally got points from Tony Paulson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kyle Krueger also scored for North Iowa. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Eric Behrend, who had two and Jake Johnson, Connor Langfield, Tyler Burg, Matt Kroska, and Conor Jonasson, who each chipped in one.

Quad City was helped by Anthony Caroselli, who had two goals. Caroselli scored the first of his two goals at 11:39 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Easton Halbert assisted on the tally. Caroselli's next tally made the score 2-1 Quad City with 3:48 left in the first period. The Jr. Flames earned a power play opportunity when Sivets was put in the box for slashing. Halbert picked up the assist. More assists for Quad City came via Peter Coppola, who had two.

Aaron Davis rejected 23 shots on goal for North Iowa. The Bulls registered two goals on two power play opportunities. Quad City's Leon stopped 53 shots out of the 58 that he faced. The Jr. Flames incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
