Three Rivers' Berardinelli deadly on offense in 6-1 win against Toledo

Behind a great game by Alex Berardinelli, who had two goals, the Three Rivers Vengeance defeated the Toledo Cherokee, 6-1.

Berardinelli found the back of the net 5:21 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Three Rivers and again while on the power play 9:00 into the second to make the score 3-1 Three Rivers.

Three Rivers' Matthew Erlichman was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 37 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Erlichman will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.28.

The Vengeance pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 42 penalty minutes.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Three Rivers also had goals scored by Jonathan Kostial, who had one and Michael Straub, who had three. Other players who recorded assists for Three Rivers were Tom Diffendal and Stephen Budkey, who contributed one a piece and Kevin Kenny and Nico Vecchio, who each chipped in three.

Toledo was held below its usual level of production. The Cherokee average 3.4 goals per game. Toledo forced Three Rivers goalie Erlichman to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Cherokee could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Toledo was led by Blake Podgorski, who scored the team's only goal. Podgorski scored on the power play 8:01 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Three Rivers. The Cherokee had taken the advantage when the Vengeance's Jonah Hoover got sent off for tripping. Connor Crowe provided the assist.

Three Rivers registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Nate Gay made 23 saves for Toledo on 29 shots. The Cherokee registered one goal on eight power play opportunities.
