Granite City blows out Breezy Point, 6-1

The Granite City Lumberjacks were firing on all cylinders against the Breezy Point North Stars, and when the final buzzer sounded Lumberjacks emerged with a 6-1 win.

Granite City pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 47 penalty minutes.

The Lumberjacks were led by Blake Phenow, who racked up one goal. Phenow scored 16:39 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Granite City. Alex Carson provided the assist.

Granite City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances.

Granite City also got points from Alex Koopmeiners, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Carson, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Nick Turbitt, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Mitchell Gwost also scored for Granite City. More assists for Granite City came via Aidan Verbeke, Isaac Hoagland, Brett Love, Roy Grandov, Drew Otto, and Nathan Kohlenhoefer, who each chipped in one.

Penalties took their toll on Breezy Point, as its penalty kill unit let in three power play goals. The North Stars could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Lumberjacks' Austin Wilson stopped 21 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Granite City ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tim Brown was ejected from the game. Breezy Point's starting goalie, Erikur Arnason, made 19 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Walker Enstad, who stopped two shots.
