Behrend nets hat trick, leads North Iowa to 10-3 win over Twin City

Eric Behrend netted a hat trick to lead the North Iowa Bulls over the Twin City Steel, 10-3.

Behrend got on the scoresheet 4:32 into the second period. He then added goals at 14:48 into the second and at 6:36 into the third.

Twin City was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as North Iowa was able to score six times while on the power play.

The the Bulls penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and three majors for 43 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game North Iowa had been spending in the box. The Bulls made Steel's goaltenders to work without much rest, taking 49 shots and forcing 39 saves. Sawyer Marshall made 35 stops and Joey Garapolo made four. North Iowa bested its season scoring average. The Bulls have scored at the pace of 5.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

North Iowa additionally got points from Tony Paulson, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Tyler Klein, who also finished with one goal and one assist. North Iowa also had goals scored by Kyle Krueger, who had one and Jake Johnson and Patrick Sivets, who each put in two. In addition, North Iowa received assists from Chancie Hanson and Tyler Burg, who each chipped in one, Matt Kroska and Kyle Gonzalez, who contributed two a piece, and James Hughes and Timothy Santopoalo, who each chipped in three.

The Steel racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and four majors for 74 minutes in penalty time. Twin City had been averaging 31.0 minutes in penalties per game.

The Steel were helped by Nicholas Schreiner, who had one goal and one assist. Schreiner scored 10:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Twin City. Calvin Miska assisted on the tally. Trey Hughes also scored for Twin City. More assists for Twin City came via Tony Buchal, Tom Bartel, Noah Anderson, and Ryan McAloon, who contributed one a piece.

Matthew Bartels rejected 24 shots on goal for North Iowa. Twin City registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Steel, Garapolo, Buchal, and Jerrett Sachs were ejected from the contest.
