Granite City falls to Minnesota in overtime, 4-3 (OT)Armadillo Deck Arena East Sat, Nov 24, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Minnesota Flying Aces' Jared Sprink scored 48 seconds into overtime to beat the Granite City Lumberjacks, 4-3 (OT). Minnesota overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Flying Aces was down 3-1 after a goal by Granite City's Drew Otto at 18:54 in the second period. Minnesota tied things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Patrick Kegley at 12:15 in the third period. The Flying Aces were paced by Sprink, who grabbed one goal. Minnesota stifled the Lumberjacks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Granite City was unable to stop the Flying Aces from sending pucks towards the net, and Minnesota eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Minnesota also got a goal from Andre Pison as well. In addition, Minnesota received assists from Dylan Nelson, who had three and Zach Randell, Billy Wagner, Logan Roszel, Payton Trammel, and Brett Sorem, who each chipped in one. The Lumberjacks struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays. Eric Miller also scored for Granite City. More assists for Granite City came via Aaron Storch, who had two and DJ Vold, Aidan Verbeke, Alex Koopmeiners, and Brett Love, who contributed one a piece. Allen Patten recorded 18 saves for the Flying Aces. Minnesota incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Granite City's Austin Wilson stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Lumberjacks registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
