Granite City survives Alexandria comeback, wins 4-3

The Alexandria Blizzard tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Granite City Lumberjacks held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Matt Peterson put Granite City up 4-2 in the third period, but Alexandria pulled to within one on Tanner Duffney's tally 16:43 into the third period.

The Lumberjacks got the win with help from a great game by Drew Otto, who had one goal and two assists. Otto scored on the power play 6:18 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Granite City. Granite City earned a power play opportunity when Bryce Mitzel was put in the box for tripping. Aidan Verbeke provided the assist.

Granite City also got a goal from Nick Turbitt as well. Other players who recorded assists for Granite City were DJ Vold and Nathan Kohlenhoefer, who contributed one a piece.

The Blizzard were often in penalty trouble, as it ended with 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time.

Ian Eckland also scored for Alexandria. In addition, Alexandria received assists from Ricky Seidel, who had two and Austin Rudnick, Garrett Skinner, and Spencer Peratalo, who each chipped in one.

Scott Murray recorded 25 saves for the Lumberjacks. Granite City totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. Alexandria's Kyle Miller stopped 20 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Blizzard registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
