Cleveland survives Three Rivers comeback, wins 2-1

The Three Rivers Vengeance tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks held on for a 2-1 victory.

Cleveland took a 2-0 lead during the third period, only to have Three Rivers storm back on a Tyler Stockwell goal 15:49 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Jr. Lumberjacks were led by goalie David Heflin, who finished with 35 saves while allowing one goal. Heflin certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.19 entering the contest.

Cleveland was led by Scott Cuthrell, who had one goal. Cuthrell scored 3:32 into the third period to make the score Cleveland. Fred West picked up the assist.

The Jr. Lumberjacks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Three Rivers power plays. Cleveland was held below its usual level of production. The Jr. Lumberjacks put an average of 5.0 pucks into the net per game. Cleveland forced the Vengeance goalie Matthew Erlichman to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Louis Sawchik also scored for Cleveland. In addition, Cleveland received assists from Cameron Dimmitt, Pat Smith, and Jake Roeper, who contributed one a piece.

Three Rivers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr. Lumberjacks to score on any of their three power plays. The Vengeance's offense operated below they season average. Three Rivers averages 4.1 goals per game. The Vengeance's offense rang up 36 shots on Cleveland's net.

Other players who recorded assists for Three Rivers were Jonah Hoover and Tom Diffendal, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. Lumberjacks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Matthew Erlichman made 32 saves for Three Rivers on 34 shots. The Vengeance incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
