Huge game by Howie boosts Flint over Michigan, 7-2Iceland Arena Sun, Sep 23, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Jacob Howie had two goals and three assists to lead the Flint Jr. Generals to a 7-2 victory over the Michigan Mountain Cats. Howie scored at 3:23 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Flint and again while on the power play 8:04 into the third to make the score 7-2 Flint.Flint pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 50 penalty minutes. The Jr. Generals' offense rang up 42 shots on Michigan's net. Flint outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Jr. Generals average 4.3 goals per contest. Flint also got points from Adam Beuthin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Brett Leppek, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Andrew Lay, who also racked up two goals and two assists. Flint also got a goal from Kenny Simmons as well. More assists for Flint came via Nicholas Gnagni, who had three and Dominic Orlando, Lucas McDiarimid, and Trevor Benaglio, who contributed one a piece. The Mountain Cats could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 50 minutes in penalties during the game. Team could not crack Flint's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. Michigan was helped by Ethan Baker, who tallied one goal. Baker scored on the power play 15:42 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Flint. The Mountain Cats earned a power play opportunity when Casey Barile was put in the box for slashing. Ben Mack assisted on the tally. Kade Morrison also scored for Michigan. Other players who recorded assists for Michigan were Derek Ried and Guy Soulliere, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Generals' Orlando stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Flint registered four goals on eight power play opportunities. Dominic Juncaj made 35 saves for Michigan on 42 shots.
