Peoria outlasts Queen City, 4-2

The Peoria Mustangs gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Queen City Steam.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Brennan Anderson secured the win for Peoria with a goal in the third period.

Alexander Turin had a great game for the Mustangs, netting two goals. Turin found the back of the net 12:11 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Peoria and again while 19:54 into the third to make the score 4-2 Peoria.

Peoria put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Queen City to score on any of its five power plays. The Mustangs were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time.

Peoria additionally got points from Cory Kettler, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Anderson, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. More assists for Peoria came via Phillip Edwards and Brendan Murphy, who each chipped in one.

The Steam racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Queen City surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Steam were helped by Thomas Clayton, who racked up one goal. Clayton scored 17:35 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Peoria. Damien Lona picked up the assist. Queen City also got a goal from James Ervin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Queen City were Henry Smith and Trevor Knoll, who contributed one a piece.

Alex Reichle made 26 saves for Peoria on 28 shots. The Mustangs registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Chad Karns rejected 25 shots on goal for Queen City.
