North Iowa uses shootout to best Breezy Point, 6-5 (1-0 SO)

Taylor Brown scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the North Iowa Bulls picked up the extra point in a 6-5 (1-0 SO) win over the Breezy Point North Stars.

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout.

Brown was all over the ice for North Iowa, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Brown scored 8:51 into the third period to make the score 4-4.

The Bulls' offense rang up 45 shots on Breezy Point's net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

North Iowa was led by Brown, who tallied one goal and two assists. North Iowa additionally got points from Matthew Kaitchuck, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for North Iowa included Ron Lindgren, who had one and Jake Johnson, who had two. More assists for North Iowa came via James Hughes, who had two.

The North Stars forced Bulls' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Joseph Moza made 22 stops and Adam Carlson made five. Breezy Point's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five North Iowa power plays. The North Stars outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Breezy Point averages 2.7 goals per contest.

The North Stars were led by Timothy Taylor, who grabbed three goals and one assist. Austin Williams also scored for Breezy Point. Other players who recorded assists for Breezy Point were Crosby Steen, who had two.

The Bulls incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Breezy Point's Grant Holler stopped 39 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The North Stars incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
