Queen City uses shootout to best Toledo, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

The Queen City Steam and the Toledo Cherokee both failed to score in overtime, but Queen City won the game 3-2 (2-1 SO) after John Bonta's deciding goal in the shootout.

The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout. Toledo's shootout goal was scored by Brody Duncan. The Steam also got a shootout goal from Damien Lona.

Queen City's offense rang up 32 shots on the Cherokee's net. The Steam were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances.

Queen City was led by Nick Brusa, who registered one goal and one assist. Brusa scored on the power play 4:10 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Queen City. The Steam had gotten the advantage when Toledo's Connor Crowe was sent off for slashing. Lona picked up the assist. Queen City also got a goal from Robert Gentile as well.

The Cherokee's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Toledo finished with 54 penalty minutes.

The Cherokee were helped by Alec Gerred, who tallied one goal. Gerred scored 13:18 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Andrew Benyo provided the assist. Austin Turner also scored for Toledo. More assists for Toledo came via Kevin Gregory, who had one.

Queen City's Chad Karns stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Steam incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Nathan Miller rejected 29 shots on goal for Toledo. The Cherokee registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Toledo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Benyo was ejected from the game.
