Amarillo uses early goal to top Texas, 5-3

Dan McNamara gave the Amarillo Bulls the lead in the first period, and the Texas Tornado was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 5-3.

McNamara provided Amarillo with the game-winning tally when he scored 18:05 into the the first period. Garret Peterson provided the assist.

TJ Sarcona had two goals to lead the Bulls to victory. Sarcona scored at 1:00 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Amarillo and again while 14:48 into the second to make the score 4-2 Amarillo.

Clint Carlisle also scored for Amarillo. Other players who recorded assists for Amarillo were Tyler Gernhofer, who had two and Connor Frey, Geoff Fortman, Brady Ferguson, Tyler Rostenkowski, Mike Davis, and Joe Grabowski, who contributed one a piece.

Texas' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Amarillo power plays. The Tornado failed to reach their usual level of shot production, putting 19 pucks on goal after averaging 29.6 shots per game this season.

Texas was helped by Andrew Mayer, who finished with one goal. Mayer scored 4:43 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Amarillo. Cameron Brown assisted on the tally. Texas also got a goal from Jackson Leef as well. More assists for Texas came via Nick Neville, Michael Hoy, Brandon Hawkins, and Justin Greenberg, who each chipped in one.

Collin Delia rejected 16 shots on goal for Amarillo. The Bulls incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Tornado's Hunter Leisner stopped 23 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Texas incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
