Soo uses shootout to best Janesville, 5-4 (3-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Soo Eagles defeated the Janesville Jets in a shootout 5-4 (3-1 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Janesville got a shootout goal from Todd Koritzinsky. Soo's other shootout goals were scored by Sean Murphy and Dante Suffredini.

The Eagles came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Soo trailed 4-3 after a goal by the Jets' Jordan Himley at 3:50 in the third period. The Eagles knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Murphy at 18:03 in the third period.

Jared VanWormer had a great game for Soo, netting two goals. VanWormer scored at 14:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Soo and again while 5:08 into the second to make the score 3-2 Soo.

The Eagles' offense was clicking better than usual and put 41 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.7 shots per game they average.

Soo also got points from Murphy, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Soo also got a goal from Pat Thompson as well. More assists for Soo came via Brandon Adams, who had two and Pat Gazzillo and Eric Rivard, who contributed one a piece.

Janesville's offense rang up 50 shots on Soo's net.

The Jets were helped by Mike Sullivan, who had one goal. Sullivan scored 19:48 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Koritzinsky picked up the assist. Janesville additionally got points from Himley, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jason Ford, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Bryan Kronberger also scored for Janesville. Other players who recorded assists for Janesville were Kucerovy, Alec Vanko, Ryan Dau, and Zach Diamantoni, who each chipped in one.

Tyler Marble made 46 saves for the Eagles on 50 shots. Soo incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Janesville's Brock Kautz stopped 36 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Jets incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
