Kenai River holds on for 4-3 win against Fairbanks

The Kenai River Brown Bears survived a determined comeback attempt by the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on the way to a 4-3 win.

Kenai River made the score 4-2 on a goal by Zac Lazzaro at 17:07 in the third period, and Fairbanks got as close as 4-3 when Ethan Somoza scored 18:00 into the third period.

Ryan Walker was all over the ice for the Brown Bears, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Walker scored the first of his two goals at 15:38 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Zack Zulkanycz provided the assist. Walker's next tally made the score 2-1 Kenai River with 17:44 left in the second period. Dylan Meier picked up the assist.

Kenai River's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Fairbanks power plays. The Brown Bears' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The 38 shots that Kenai River put on net surpassed the Brown Bears' average of 28.3 shots per game this season.

Kenai River also got points from Matt Seidel, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Kenai River received assists from Alec Butcher, Mikhail Bushinski, and Albin Karlsson, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Dogs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Fairbanks was helped by Devin Loe, who grabbed one goal. Loe scored 9:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fairbanks. Lawrence Cornellier assisted on the tally. Fairbanks additionally got points from Garret Clemment, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Fairbanks were Doug Rose, who had one.

Evan McCarthy made 26 saves for Kenai River on 29 shots. The Brown Bears ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Steve Perry rejected 34 shots on goal for the Ice Dogs. Fairbanks ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
