McCann's hat trick boosts Minot over Brookings, 5-2

Jake McCann lifted the Minot Minotauros to a 5-2 victory with a hat trick against the Brookings Blizzard.

McCann's first goal came 3:07 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:46 into the second and at 18:33 into the third.

With 29 shots on target during the contest, Minot exceeded the 23.3 shots it averages per game this year. The Minotauros outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Minot averages 2.6 goals per contest.

Minot also got a goal from Stephen Sherman as well. In addition, Minot received assists from Jake OBorsky, who had three and Matt Audette, Paul Sorenson, Cameron Rowat, Jacob Benson, Zack Holstrom, Jadin Martin, and Collin Abitz, who contributed one a piece.

The 37 shots that Brookings put on net surpassed the Blizzard's average of 29.8 shots per game this season.

Brookings was helped by Nikta Sokolov, who had two goals. Sokolov scored the first of his two goals at 12:18 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Minot. Eetu Karvinen provided the assist. Sokolov's next tally made the score 4-2 Minot with 9:04 left in the third period. Karvinen assisted on the tally. More assists for Brookings came via Cody Marooney, who had one.

Ryan Ruck made 35 saves for the Minotauros on 37 shots. Minot incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Drew Weigman took the loss and made 14 saves before being replaced by Chase Wilson who made 10 saves. The Blizzard incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
