Soo beats Springfield 5-4 after comeback scare

The Soo Eagles survived a determined comeback attempt by the Springfield Jr. Blues on the way to a 5-4 win.

A goal by Michael Lant put Soo up 5-3 in the third period, but Springfield pulled to within one on Parker Johnson's tally 17:29 into the third period.

Jared VanWormer had one goal and two assists to lead the Eagles. VanWormer scored 5:32 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Soo. Brandon Adams picked up the assist.

Soo's offense rang up 35 shots on the Jr. Blues' net.

Soo also got points from Lant, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Sean Murphy, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Nikita Zagryadskiy, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Denver Pierce, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Soo came via Cody Von Reuden, Mike Sabatini, and Chris Waterstreet, who contributed one a piece.

By firing 43 shots on goal, Springfield exceeded the 26.3 shots it averages per game this year.

Springfield additionally got points from Matt Iacopelli, who also registered one goal and one assist. Springfield also got a goal from Brett Skibba as well. Other players who recorded assists for Springfield were Davis Dekorte, who had two and Terry Leibo and Ryan Atkinson, who each chipped in one.

Skoog Paige rejected 39 shots on goal for the Eagles. Soo totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Jr. Blues' Matt Leon stopped 30 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Springfield totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play.
