Huge game by L boosts Wichita Falls over Odessa, 7-1

Behind a great game by O'Neal L, who had two goals and two assists, the Wichita Falls Wildcats defeated the Odessa Jackalopes, 7-1.

L's tallies came at 8:14 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wichita Falls and 15:14 into the second to make the score 3-1 Wichita Falls.

Odessa was stymied by Wichita Falls netminder Evan Cowley, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. Cowley certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.96 entering the contest.

The Wildcats surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Wichita Falls averages 3.1 goals per game. The Wildcats could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. Wichita Falls' offense was clicking better than usual and put 31 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.5 shots per game it averages.

Wichita Falls additionally got points from Brian LeBlanc, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Nick Farmer, who also grabbed one goal and three assists, and Kyle Bauman, who also tallied one goal and three assists. Rudy Junda also scored for Wichita Falls. In addition, Wichita Falls received assists from Salminen Sami, who had one and Chris Knudson, who had two.

The 26 shots that the Jackalopes put on net surpassed Odessa's average of 14.9 shots per game this season.

The Jackalopes were led by Taylor Portner, who scored the team's only goal. Portner scored on the power play 14:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wichita Falls. Odessa had taken the advantage when the Wildcats' George Pagonis got sent off for boarding. Matt Volonnino assisted on the tally.

Wichita Falls registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Jackalopes' starting goalie, Nick Deery, made 15 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Erick Majerle, who stopped nine shots. Odessa incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
