Topeka vanquishes Texas in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Topeka RoadRunners defeated the Texas Tornado in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Texas' shootout goal was scored by Scott Conway. Topeka's other shootout goal was scored by Kyle Sharkey.

The RoadRunners kept the Tornado's goalie busy throughout the game, and Hunter Leisner made 32 saves on 35 shots.

Topeka was helped by Michael Covach, who finished with one goal. Covach scored 12:01 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jake Kamrass picked up the assist. Tyler Andrew also scored for Topeka. More assists for Topeka came via Drew Kariofiles, Tomas Nechala, and Sharkey, who each chipped in one.

Texas averages 30.0 shots on goal per game, but only sent 19 pucks on net against the RoadRunners.

The Tornado were helped by Andrew Mayer, who grabbed one goal. Mayer scored on the power play 29 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Texas. Texas had gotten the advantage when Topeka's Nechala was sent off for tripping. Justin Greenberg assisted on the tally. Texas also got a goal from Jackson Leef as well. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Nick Neville, Conway, and elexie solovyev, who contributed one a piece.

Spencer Viele recorded 17 saves for the RoadRunners. Topeka incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Tornado incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
