Bismarck rips Austin, 5-2

The Bismarck Bobcats were firing on all cylinders against the Austin Bruins, and when the final buzzer sounded Bobcats emerged with a 5-2 win.

Bismarck's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Austin power plays.

The Bobcats were helped by Matt Pohlkamp, who registered two goals. Pohlkamp scored the first of his two goals at 8:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bismarck. Stanislav Dzakhov provided the assist. Pohlkamp's next tally made the score 2-1 Bismarck with 2:15 left in the first period. A kneeing penalty on Nolan Kirley had put Bismarck on the power play. Matt Anders picked up the assist. Bismarck also got points from Anders, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Bismarck also got a goal from Bob Kinne as well. In addition, Bismarck received assists from Nate Repensky, who had two and Joe Giordano, Filip Starzynski, and Shane Omdahl, who contributed one a piece.

Austin was below its usual level of shot production, taking 19 shots compared to the 29.0 the Bruins average.

Austin was helped by Grant Eichstadt, who finished with one goal. Eichstadt scored 5:14 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Drew Anderson provided the assist. CJ Smith also scored for Austin. More assists for Austin came via John Simonson and Riley Colvard, who each chipped in one.

The Bobcats' Aaron Nelson stopped 17 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Bismarck incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Nicholas Lehr rejected 17 shots on goal for the Bruins. Austin incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
