Corpus Christi boosted by Myers' play in net, beats Odessa 8-1

Ben Myers stood on his head and made 25 saves to lead the Corpus Christi IceRays to an 8-1 victory over the Odessa Jackalopes.

Corpus Christi got the win with help from a great game by Eric Purcell, who had two goals and two assists. Purcell scored the first of his two goals at 11:30 into the third period to make the score 6-1 Corpus Christi. Beau Walker assisted on the tally. Purcell's next tally made the score 8-1 Corpus Christi with 3:32 left in the third period. Michael Economos picked up the assist.

The IceRays excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Corpus Christi found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The IceRays have scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. With 37 shots on target during the contest, Corpus Christi exceeded the 24.6 shots it averages per game this year.

Corpus Christi additionally got points from Walker, who also registered one goal and one assist. Corpus Christi also had goals scored by Charles Baldwin, who had two and Jalen Schulz, Brandon Smith, and Grant Hutton, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Corpus Christi were Joe Ginley, who had three, Ryan Chiasson, Andrew Paras, and Emil Romig, who each chipped in one, and Rudy Sulmonde and Wayland Williams, who contributed two a piece.

Odessa stifled the IceRays' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jackalopes put 26 shots on net during the contest, more than the 14.6 they average per game.

Odessa was led by Anthony Olguin, who scored the team's only goal. Olguin scored 9:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Odessa. Matthieu Audet assisted on the tally.

Corpus Christi totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play. Nick Deery made 29 saves for the Jackalopes on 37 shots. Odessa ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
