Kenai River squeaks by Wenatchee, 4-2

The Kenai River Brown Bears and the Wenatchee Wild were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Kenai River made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Zack Zulkanycz secured the win for the Brown Bears with a goal in the third period.

Wenatchee's power play was ineffective against Kenai River's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Brown Bears were paced by Zulkanycz, who had one goal and one assist. Zulkanycz scored on the power play 19:49 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Kenai River. Kenai River earned a power play opportunity when Trace Redmond was put in the box for hooking. Jacob Davidson picked up the assist.

The Brown Bears put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.6 they average per game. Kenai River found itself short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

Kenai River also got points from Davidson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Alec Butcher also scored for Kenai River. Other players who recorded assists for Kenai River were Alex Jackstadt, who had two and Mikhail Bushinski, Conor Deal, and Brad Duwe, who contributed one a piece.

By firing 33 shots on goal, the Wild exceeded the 28.8 shots they average per game this year.

Wenatchee was helped by Max McHugh, who finished with one goal. McHugh scored 18:06 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Chris Kerr provided the assist. Wenatchee also got a goal from Evan Schmidbauer as well. In addition, Wenatchee received assists from Chris Jones, Joseph Sullivan, and Derick Kuchera, who each chipped in one.

Evan McCarthy rejected 31 shots on goal for the Brown Bears. Kenai River registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Wild's Robert Nichols stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Wenatchee incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
