Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Port Huron Fighting Falcons defeated the Soo Eagles in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout.Port Huron came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Fighting Falcons was down 3-2 after a power play goal by Soo's Jared VanWormer at 3:46 in the third period. Port Huron knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Tyler Spezia at 6:43 in the third period. In a losing effort, the Eagles were led by Michael Crowley, who grabbed two goals. Crowley scored the first of his two goals at 3:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Soo. Mike Sabatini assisted on the tally. Crowley's next tally made the score 2-2 with 5:47 left in the second period. Sabatini provided the assist. The Fighting Falcons put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.0 they average per game. Port Huron was helped by Mitch Maloney, who racked up one goal. Maloney scored 17:51 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Dan Dupell assisted on the tally. Port Huron also got a goal from Brett DAndrea as well. Other players who recorded assists for Port Huron were Alex Archibald, David Parrottino, Dunk Abbott, Nick Horne, and Rick DeRosa, who each chipped in one. Soo stifled the Fighting Falcons' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. More assists for Soo came via Matt Menta, who had two and Sean Murphy and Eric Rivard, who contributed one a piece. Alex Blankenburg recorded 22 saves for Port Huron. The Fighting Falcons incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Skoog Paige made 30 saves for the Eagles on 33 shots. Soo incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
