Brookings holds on for 2-1 win against Coulee Region

The Coulee Region Chill tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Brookings Blizzard held on for a 2-1 victory.

Brookings made the score 2-0 on a goal by Thomas Williams at 10:00 in the third period, and Coulee Region got as close as 2-1 when Kevin Becker scored 19:16 into the third period.

The Chill were stymied by the Blizzard netminder Drew Weigman, who stopped 30 shots during the victory. Weigman certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.74 entering the contest.

Brookings was led by Williams, who finished with one goal.

The Blizzard managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Brookings ended up below its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The 40 shots that the Blizzard put on net surpassed Brookings' average of 28.8 shots per game this season.

Evan Hesse also scored for Brookings. More assists for Brookings came via Jared Docken, Justin Moody, and Nick DeCenzo, who each chipped in one.

Coulee Region managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Chill finished below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. Coulee Region forced the Blizzard goalie Weigman to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Brookings registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Devin Kero recorded 38 saves for the Chill. Coulee Region registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.
