Kalamazoo squeaks by Jamestown, 3-2

The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Jamestown Ironmen.

Kalamazoo gained the winning advantage on a goal by Taylor Burden 12:02 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Jr. K-Wings were paced by Burden, who registered one goal.

Kalamazoo also got points from Kyle Gattelaro, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Robbie Payne also scored for Kalamazoo. Other players who recorded assists for Kalamazoo were Mark Esshaki, Brendan Vetter, Mac McDonnell, and Kody Polin, who contributed one a piece.

Jamestown managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Ironmen finished below its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. With 36 shots on target during the contest, Jamestown exceeded the 30.8 shots it averages per game this year.

The Ironmen were helped by Victor Johansson, who had one goal. Johansson scored 8:55 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Dylan Zink assisted on the tally. Jamestown also got a goal from Joe Mottiqua as well. In addition, Jamestown received assists from Matthew Crockett, who had one.

Marcus Due-Boje recorded 34 saves for Kalamazoo. The Jr. K-Wings incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Jamestown's Joe Ballmer stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Ironmen registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
